Barringtons Staff Volunteer Efforts with Taste Cultural Food Tours

Viktoria Darabi, Barringtons Contractor and Food Tour Social Enterprise Volunteer

Viktoria is a Social Media, Content & Training Contractor based in Sydney and has been volunteering at Taste Cultural Food Tours for about 18 months.

Taste Tours are a not-for-profit social enterprise and charity founded on the principles of mutual respect, celebration of diversity and the promotion of social cohesion.  They use food (social gastronomy) to help address social inequities and create local jobs for western Sydney's migrants, refugees and youth.

All profits are invested into the training and employment of the refugees, migrants and youth identified through their networks as suitable for food tour guiding. The guides gain life skills they can take into their home and future workplace lives whatever career they may choose.

Her life long passion for food culture and food tourism, Masters degree studies in Gastronomic Tourism and an enduring belief in the power of food culturactivities to transform perceptions, lives and communities are what attracted to her to this cause.

Viktoria explains, "I am a board member and provide support to the CEO by participating in marketing and guide training strategy workshops; providing ‘on call’ advice along with other members of the brains trust; going undercover as mystery shopper for guide evaluations; participating in new tour development photo shoots and providing feedback; supporting the CEO at networking events, international travel media marketplace events, Destination NSW trade and public marketing events."
