Barringtons Are Training Partners in Illawarra HospitalityYES pre-employment program.

Launch by Parlimentary Secretary Mr Gareth Ward

Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward has today welcomed the commencement of the HospitalityYES pre-employment program. HospitalityYES is one of a number of targeted programs being delivered through the pilot Illawarra Youth Employment Strategy (IllawarraYES), which was launched by Mr Ward in July 2016.

“IllawarraYES is an exciting initiative. It involves the three levels of government working in partnership with industry, NGOs and employment service providers to get more of our region’s young people into jobs,” Mr Ward said.

“The strategy includes the delivery of a number of pre-employment programs in key growth sectors across the Illawarra-Shoalhaven. To date, a number of programs have been delivered in the Retail, Hospitality, Contact Centre and Aged Care sectors.”

The HospitalityYES program has been developed by ClubsNSW in partnership with IllawarraYES partners and registered training organisation Barringtons.

“HospitalityYES has been designed to ensure our young people are getting the training and experience employers in the hospitality industry want, which will give participants the best possible chance of securing a job after they complete the program,” Mr Ward said.

Mr Matt O’Hara, ClubsNSW Illawarra Representative and CEO of the Illawarra Yacht Club & Oak Flats Bowling Club, said the program will provide participants with a Certificate II in Hospitality, as well as valuable work experience in local Clubs.

“Clubs are a major employer in the Illawarra and a great place for young people to get their first experience in the hospitality industry,” Mr O’Hara said.

“The 20 participants enrolled in this latest round of HospitalityYES will get first-hand experience in the industry through work placements at local clubs. The program will also let potential employers see participants in action on the job, so it’s really a win-win for job seekers and employers in the Illawarra,”

“Having hired several young people who participated in the first HospitalityYES program in late 2016, I really see the value this initiative brings to both employers and young job seekers in the region.” Mr O’Hara said.

Training for the HospitalityYES program will take place at Illawarra Yacht Club and is subsidised by Department Industry - Training Services NSW, through Smart & Skilled.

The office Christmas party can be a great place to unwind, celebrate your wins and socialise with your staff and work colleagues. But unwind a little too much, or fail to act on employee’s complaints about inappropriate behaviour towards them, and your business, culture and potentially bottom line can take a big hit.
